MASTUNG: DIG Motorway Ali Sher Jhakrani and other senior officers and officials of the motorway removed the illegal search lights and pressure horns from various vehicles near Lakpass Toll Plaza on the national highway and demolished them right away, on Wednesday.
The action was taken to implement the rules. In a message to adopt precautionary measures to prevent accidents, the DIG Motorways urged drivers to follow the traffic rules.
On the occasion, the DIG and officers also distributed food packets for Iftar among the passengers and also spoke to the media.
DIG Jhakrani said that in pursuance of the order of the High Court, the Motorway Police removed lights not allowed under traffic rules from vehicles through a special campaign, adding that pressure horns are being removed as more death are reported from road mishaps than terrorism in Balochistan, adding that therefore it has become imperative to ensure implementation of traffic rule.
‘We have to play an effective role. That is why the Motorway Police organized this campaign. He said that instead of punishment, we are educating the people to ensure implementation of laws out of love as 95% of the people in Balochistan do not even have a driving license,’ he said.
In response to a question, he said that the Motorway Police is taking all possible steps to check the speed of vehicles and ensure precautionary measures to control road accidents. “We are in constant touch with the NHA and the Board of Revenue to provide us with land in which a driving authority can be set up so that people can be trained and get regular licenses,” he said, adding that duty officers have been deployed in motorway areas to control accidents.
