WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA,WFP to provide full support to the Mother and Child Health and Nutrition Programmes in the province.
QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal Aliyani has said that Government of Balochistan was facing economic and health challenges and required cooperation of development sector, civil society and donor agencies to cope with the challenges.
During a meeting held here in which representatives of UN other donor agencies took met Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan along with Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt. Gen. Muhammad Afzal, CM expressed the concerns here on Thursday.
Federal Minister Zubaida Jalal, Deputy Speaker Sardar Babar Musa Khel, Chief Secretary Fazil Asghar and others were also present on the occasion.
The participants also discussed the situation of Corona virus in Balochistan, government initiatives, economic challenges, their solutions and the support to international development partners.
The meeting also reviewed the economic impacts of corona virus and its impact on employment.
It was also decided during the meeting that NDMA will assist in enhancing virus testing capacity and setting up of BSL Grade 2 laboratories at divisional level and the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, UNFPA and the World Food Program (WFP) will provide full support to the Mother and Child Health and Nutrition Program in the province.
It was also decided to establish coordinated liaison between provincial departments and UN agencies. It was told during the meeting that the World Health Organization will also support paramedics’ training programs, surveys and awareness campaigns.
WHO praised provincial government’s prompt response to the prevention of Corona virus, including other related issues and said that the situation was much better in in Pakistan than in Western countries
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Balochistan said that new theories about corona virus are emerging every day whereas the world was facing a major economic and health challenges, adding that until a is vaccine invented, the world will have to take precautionary measures against the coronavirus.
He said that that Balochistan was facing health and nutrition problems and Health and Education sectors would welcome the cooperation of partner organizations in the areas of nutrition and maternal and child health. He said that promoting economic activities, job security and harnessing the province’s resources are top priorities in the face of the effects of the Corina virus and added that was a difficult time for governments, institutions and businesses. He said that the world’s economic situation is expected to change dramatically and added that the government will formulate strategies to secure employment and promote economic activities as per the requirements of the future.
He said that Government of Balochistan fulfilled its duties as a responsible government in Taftan
and provided food, health and accommodation facilities to the pilgrims in Taftan which happens to be 700 km from Quetta.
He said that political parties are tackling the challenge of corona virus with the help of civil society and administration and added that a large number of people are unaware of the hazards of the Corona virus and do not consider it a threat.
